Many of South Australia's Asian communities are celebrating the start of the 2019 Lunar New Year this month.

In the Chinese calendar, the first day of the New Year this year commences on Tuesday, 5 February and officially initiates the Year of the Pig – a symbol of wealth and good fortune in Chinese culture.

Chinatown Adelaide is preparing to come alive in celebration of Luna New Year, Year of the Pig including a Gala Dinner and Street Party.

Chinatown Adelaide 2019 Prosperity Gala Dinner

The Prosperity Gala Dinner on Saturday 2 February 2019 will kick off the 2019 lunar celebrations. This ticketed dinner will celebrate and highlight the Chinese history and heritage through an evening of fine food and cultural entertainment.

Chinatown Adelaide Lunar New Year Street Party

The 16th Lunar New Year Street Party will be held from 12pm to 10pm on Saturday 9 February 2019 in Moonta Street and Gouger Street, Adelaide.

Immerse yourself in traditions and cultural experiences to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year with entertainment, food and wine at this free street party.

The Street Party is organised by Chinatown Adelaide and supported by the City of Adelaide, Bank SA and Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s Multicultural Grants Program.
