Intergovernmental relations

The department provides leadership, coordination and guidance in pursuing South Australia’s interests and negotiating the best possible outcomes for South Australia in intergovernmental forums.

In particular, the department provides strategic advice and support to the Premier and Cabinet on South Australia’s relations with the Commonwealth and other state and territory governments, including for meetings of the National Cabinet. It also supports the state’s strategic relationship with the City of Adelaide through its role as secretariat for the Capital City Committee.

The department collaborates closely with the Commonwealth Government and key South Australian government agencies, particularly the Department of Treasury and Finance, on key issues such as schooling, early childhood, disability, health, skills and housing services in South Australia, as well as the implementation of the Adelaide City Deal, key infrastructure projects and other strategic partnerships. The department also collaborates closely with the City of Adelaide on key initiatives in the Adelaide CBD, and provides support to the Capital City Committee.
