The Department of the Premier and Cabinet is responsible for the development of multicultural policies and programs and the promotion of cultural diversity in South Australia.

Vision

Our vision is to achieve an open, inclusive, cohesive and equitable multicultural society, where cultural, linguistic and religious diversity is understood, valued and supported.

We advise the South Australian Government about the development of policies and programs that promote cultural diversity and all matters relating to multicultural affairs.

With a focus on supporting the community and encouraging communities to showcase their cultural diversity, Multicultural Affairs is also responsible for the administration and delivery of multicultural grant programs, events, awards, community forums, support programs and resources.

Some of the ways we are supporting multiculturalism in South Australia are detailed in our South Australian Multicultural Highlights.

South Australian Multicultural Highlights

South Australia is a truly multicultural state.

We are a proud multicultural society. It’s who we are and who we have always been.

The 2021 Census revealed we are home to people from about 200 countries, speaking almost 250 languages and practising more than 125 different religions.

Through the 2022-23 State Budget, an additional $16 million over four years was committed for grants and other programs to enrich our multicultural sector and strengthen our communities.

With these projects we are creating opportunities for our multicultural communities to contribute to our state’s economy, and we are engaging with government, business and the community to help us make South Australia more inclusive culturally aware place to live, study, work and thrive.

For a snapshot of our cultural and linguistic diversity, and to read more about our progress on these important pieces of work read our South Australian Multicultural Highlights.
