Performance at a glance
The department is committed to implementing a range of strategies, programs and initiatives to achieve our objectives in line with our purpose, vision and strategic goals.
Highlights from the 2022-23 year include:
- Delivered the DPC Strategic Direction 2022-25 including the development of four core objectives and DPC’s values of courageous, connected and curious.
- Developed the South Australian Economic Statement launched by the Premier in March 2023. The economic statement outlines a vision for the state’s economic future that is smart, sustainable and inclusive, improving the wellbeing of all South Australians.
- Established the new Office for Autism in May 2023, to support improved outcomes for autistic and autism communities. Led by an autistic director and autistic manager, the Office for Autism will drive outcomes in collaboration with government agencies including to progress relevant election commitments such as the Autism Strategy and Charter.
- Launched the department’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-26 on
19 May 2023, with over 150 staff attending and reaffirming our department’s commitment to working towards lasting and genuine reconciliation. - DPC led the State’s engagement with the Commonwealth to secure South Australia’s role as the home of Australia’s submarine construction industry through the delivery of our nation’s next generation conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines (SSN-AUKUS). This includes establishment of a genuine partnership between the State and Commonwealth, underpinned by the commitments in the Cooperation Agreement.
- Developed and delivered the Better Housing Public Information Campaign which communicated the State Government’s housing measures including abolishing stamp duty for eligible first home buyers, introducing more rights for renters, including more affordable bonds, a ban on rent bidding and pet ownership as well as the largest ever land release for new homes in the State’s history.
- Established the We Are.SA whole of government content portal, giving South Australians one place to discover work being done across the public sector to improve the lives of South Australians and, at the same time, engender pride within the SA public sector workforce.
- Delivered State Funerals for South Australian football icon Neil Kerley AM and Olympian and leading Australian winemaker Sir James Hardy OBE and delivered a public state ceremony on the steps of Parliament House to mark the historic passing of legislation to deliver a state-based First Nations Voice to Parliament.
- Led observances following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a State Service of thanksgiving for the life, work and witness of Her Majesty
The Queen on 20 September 2022, and supported the celebrations for the Accession of His Majesty The King. - Supported the successful debut of the AFL Gather Round which contributed more than $83 million to the South Australian economy and more than 40,000 out-of-state visitors.
- Supported the delivery of the first LIV Golf Adelaide tournament on Australian shores, which saw the biggest crowds for the world tournament.
- Supported Adelaide’s major arts festivals, including the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival.
- Launched Alchemy in December 2022, a new development opportunity for the public sector that brings together public policy professionals eager to hone their craft and drive strong outcomes for South Australia.
- The Circle – First Nations Entrepreneur Hub led the inaugural First Nations Business Showcase in October 2022, during Indigenous Business Month, that provided a unique opportunity to engage directly with the state’s First Nations business sector. The event was the largest gathering of South Australian First Nations businesses under one roof, with 100 First Nations business exhibiting to an audience of more than 1200 registered attendees.
- Supported the independent review of the Tarrkarri – Centre for First Nations Cultures, undertaken by the Hon. Bob Carr, the Hon. Ken Wyatt AM and
Carolyn Hewson AO, to ensure the project delivers a world-class cultural institution that will drive global visitation. The Review Panel presented their findings to Cabinet in April 2023. - Launched the government’s new Security SA website in February 2023. A central hub of information and tools to assist state government agencies and employees to develop, implement and maintain protective security processes and procedures.
- Launched the Serving South Australia - One Stop Shop online initiative with the new dashboard and a range of transactions.
- Commenced construction of the new Carrick Hill Pavilion that will offer an impressive event space, enabling the beloved venue to increase its commercial offering.
- Facilitated Trade Missions on behalf of the SA Government to enable South Australian Businesses opportunities in overseas markets, support international trade growth and foster ongoing relationships in offshore markets.
- Launched the first South Australian Multicultural Charter on 9 March 2023, that will strengthen our culturally connected South Australia, and support bringing the South Australian Multicultural Act 2021 to life for all South Australians.
- Provided leadership to the whole-of-government response to natural disasters and state emergencies, in particular, emergency response and recovery efforts relating to the River Murray flood emergency event, that occurred between November 2022 and February 2023.
