An Order of Precedence is a guide for determining the ceremonial status of Members of Parliament, government officials, visiting dignitaries and the judiciary, who are attending or have a role at a ceremony, function or official event.

Our Protocol Unit use the South Australia Order of Precedence, however all levels of government have their own Order of Precedence, as do many organisations and it should be used as a guide only.

There are a number of variables that need to be considered when applying the Order to a particular occasion, for example the location of the event, government representation and funding sources.

For further guidance and advice please contact our Protocol Unit.
