On Thursday 5 April, SA Health held the Pitch and Awards night for D3 Digital Challenge #6 – Healthy Kids Menu.
Seven teams pitched their innovative business solutions ranging from game-based apps, to social media streams, and set meal kits. All ideas focused on increasing the amount of healthy food options available for children when dining out, in line with SA Health’s Healthy Kids Menu initiative.
Impressed by the variety and creativity of the solutions proposed, the judging panel presented two teams with best concept awards on the night. The successful teams will receive $15,000 to kick-start research and development of a viable business model.
The first winner, Feed Studios (pictured below), will develop pre-prepared food kits, including customisable menus and promotions to drive consumer demand. The judges were impressed by the practicality of the solution and Feed Studios' approach to addressing the challenge at the supply end.
The second winner, Evolve Food Foundation (pictured top), aim to tackle the demand side of the challenge with an app-based game and recipe-sharing database for food outlets. The potential for the concept to influence social behaviours appealed greatly to the judges.
Over the next four weeks each team will receive business mentoring and coaching from LeapSheep, and support from SA Health to further develop their ideas and business plans. The winning teams will present their final prototype to SA Health in May, where they will have the opportunity to receive further funding.

This collaboration marks a new approach for D3 Challenges, as we eagerly await the release of our interactive D3 Challenge e-learning package. The online resource will be available for any interested party willing to use the D3 model in the future.
