An independent review of the emergency management response to the extreme weather event that took place in South Australia between 28 September and 5 October 2016 was announced by Premier Jay Weatherill on 4 October 2016.
The review was led by former South Australia Police Commissioner Gary Burns who investigated the adequacy of the state’s prevention, preparedness, response and recovery arrangements.
The government considered the review in detail. Since issuing its response to the report, significant work has been undertaken with stakeholders and the community to strengthen planning, coordination and leadership across the emergency management sector. Further information is included in the progress report below.
Further work will continue to ensure that the state is well placed to prevent (or minimise) the impacts, prepare for, respond to and recover from extreme weather events.
